A friend has a 250 acre plantation in Scotland which needs a lot of work in order to get the right Habitat for Deer Control. This Means to brash back trees and cut the bracken in all the major rides so that the rides/breaks are all clear thus letting more sunlight in for fescue and plants to grow for the deer to feed on. By carrying out these tasks it will also encourage other wildlife, plant life, insects and reptiles where before they would not have been seen
We also needed to erect the Doe Box/Hide that I’d previously made in an elevated position overlooking four rides. My joinery skills again came into play as the box was going to sit on a 12 ft high frame, all to be made on site from larch poles
The main frame work being assembled, as you can see from the pics the weather was not the best.
Frame work complete ready to sit the box on top. I never took any pics as I was on top fitting it all together
Just the roof to go on. Health and safety would’ve had a field day as it was all built without a scaffold
The finished job. All built without a spirit level
The view over the rides
When the box was finished we helped out the other lads brash through the chipper
The weather was not good at all for stalking but I managed two 2 hour stalks mentored by Stu who really knows his stuff. Plenty of signs but no luck. With all the noise and weather this was expected.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable four days and I can’t wait to get back up there next month
